Plan your election timeline
You can use our election planner HERE.
School board elections in Aotearoa must use the election timetable that is prescribed in the Education (Board Elections) Regulations 2022. The standard (63-day) election timetable must be used for all parent elections (including triennial, mid-term and by-elections) as well as triennial staff elections. The shorter (31-day) timetable is used for student elections and staff by-elections ONLY. Boards are able to set the date for their election, provided the chosen date falls within a few rules.
- Parent triennial & mid-term elections and staff triennial elections must be held within the date range that is gazetted by the Minister of Education and published by the Ministry.
- Student Elections must be held in September.
- Dates for by-elections must be within the ranges specified in Schedule 23, Section 13 of the Education and Training Act.
Contact the Mission Control team, and we will discuss with you what dates would work for your school or kura.
The election planner below can be used to organise your election timetable and work out what dates fit your school or kura best.
The Mission Control team will confirm that the date you choose is correct as part of the election set up process.
